Abu Dhabi Court Orders Borrower to Repay Dh646,000 in Bank Debt
Borrower found in breach of Murabaha contract as court rules in favour of bank’s repayment and compensation claims.

The Abu Dhabi Commercial Court of First Instance has directed a borrower to settle Dh646,000 with a bank after he defaulted on a loan and credit card payments, ruling that he had failed to honour his contractual obligations.
According to court documents, the bank filed a case demanding Dh641,000 in unpaid facilities, Dh20,000 in compensation, and legal expenses. The borrower had secured financing through a Murabaha agreement worth Dh613,979, along with a credit card, but defaulted shortly after receiving the funds.
An expert report submitted to the court confirmed the borrower’s outstanding liability of Dh641,495. The bank had secured legally valid guarantees, including salary certificates and cheques, and was found to have complied with all legal procedures.
In its judgment, the court held that the borrower’s failure to make regular repayments caused financial harm to the bank. It ordered him to repay Dh641,495, an additional Dh5,000 in compensation, and cover legal costs, while dismissing other claims made by the bank.
