India: Kerala HC Sets Aside GO Reducing Rate of RT-PCR Tests

The High Court has set aside Government Order (GO) reducing the rate of RT-PCR Tests to a standard rate of 500 Rupees in the State. The Kerala High Court struck down a government order that reduced the cost of RT PCR testing from Rs. 1700 to Rs. 500 at all private laboratories in the state. The order was given in response to applications submitted by Accredited Molecular Testing Laboratories and Devi Scans (P) Ltd, both of which sought to have the impugned Government Order overturned. Although cheaper testing kits are available on the market, the petitioners claim that these may not provide valid results. The rise in prices once brought to the attention of the State Government was followed by the standardization of the prize to 500 Rupees via a Government Order.
