In a recent judgment of the Dubai Criminal Court of Appeal, a 27-year-old Pakistani man, identified as MN, had his sentence reduced from 25 years and deportation to 15 years after winning an appeal against his conviction for murdering his girlfriend. The incident took place at their residence in Al Muraqabbat, Dubai, in March of 2022.
The man was found guilty of strangling his partner to death during a heated argument. In December, he received a sentence of 25 years in prison and deportation, from the Dubai Criminal Court. However, his legal team, NYK Law Firm appealed the verdict, which resulted in a reduction of sentence to 15 years.
During the original court proceedings, the man recounted to prosecutors that, following the assault, he went to the kitchen to make tea and only discovered his girlfriend's lifeless body upon his return. The defendant admitted to the crime, following a comprehensive investigation that led to the arrest of the perpetrator.
