Ofcom, the UK's media regulator, has closed its investigation into whether OnlyFans effectively prevents under-18s from accessing explicit content. Launched in May 2024, the probe focused on the platform's age verification measures.
Although the investigation into underage access has been dropped, Ofcom will continue assessing whether OnlyFans provided complete and accurate information in response to regulatory inquiries. The regulator’s supervision team will maintain engagement with the platform to ensure child protection measures remain effective.
OnlyFans asserts confidence in its compliance with age-restriction obligations. Since 2021, the platform has relied on Yoti, a government-approved age verification provider, to confirm that UK users are over 18. Additionally, OnlyFans claims its age assurance was consistently set at a minimum of 20 years old.
Ofcom clarified that it is not making any determinations on underage access or non-compliance but reserves the right to revisit the case should new evidence emerge.
