A parent’s complaint that a study material was contrary to Islamic values has landed a private school in trouble. The complaint was for the distribution of a Grade 10 educational resource that contained material that was incompatible with the Islamic religion, as well as the society's conventions and values. It was discovered that the school had indeed broken the circular regarding the revision of educational resources, which requires all schools to review all new educational resources and ensure they do not contain anything that contradicts the Islamic religion or the society's values and customs, while also obtaining prior approval from the Ministry's competent authority before distributing them. According to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the school is facing legal action (MoEHE). The mandates for review of study content seems to have not been followed by the said school in question. The school has been directed to remove the objectionable material in question.
