UAQ Police Crack Down on Illegal Street Racing and Reckless Driving

In a firm move against dangerous driving behaviors, the General Command of Umm Al Quwain Police has confiscated several vehicles involved in illegal racing, reckless stunts, and unauthorized gatherings on Emirates Road. The enforcement action underscores the authorities’ commitment to ensuring road safety and preventing traffic-related incidents.
Captain Jasim Sultan Masfar, Manager of the Follow-Up Branch at the Traffic and Patrols Department, warned that such reckless activities pose serious risks not only to the drivers themselves but also to other road users. Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against violators, emphasizing that those caught engaging in street racing or dangerous stunts will face severe legal consequences, including vehicle seizure.
To further curb reckless driving, Umm Al Quwain Police have intensified patrols and launched public awareness campaigns aimed at educating motorists about the dangers of unlawful road behavior. The police have urged all residents to comply with traffic laws and report any dangerous activities to prevent potential accidents.
Legal Perspective on Reckless Driving and Street Racing in the UAE
From a legal standpoint, reckless driving, illegal racing, and performing stunts on public roads are serious traffic violations under Federal Traffic Law No. 21 of 1995 and its amendments. The UAE imposes hefty fines, black points, and potential vehicle confiscation on those found guilty of such offenses. According to Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017, engaging in unauthorized racing can result in a fine of AED 50,000, along with impoundment of the vehicle.
Legal experts emphasize that these measures align with Article 399 of the UAE Penal Code, which penalizes any act that endangers lives or public safety. Additionally, drivers involved in accidents caused by reckless driving may face civil liability claims for damages and injuries sustained by victims.
Given the stringent legal framework, experts strongly advise motorists to adhere to traffic laws and exercise caution on the roads to avoid severe legal and financial consequences.
