The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to pay Dhs15,000 in compensation to a woman after finding that his abusive and threatening conduct caused her psychological and emotional harm.

The woman had filed a civil lawsuit seeking Dhs30,000 in compensation for moral and psychological damages, defamation, and legal expenses.

According to court records, the case stemmed from repeated aggressive behaviour by the man, including verbal abuse, threats, defamation, and physical assault. The incidents had earlier led to a criminal case in which the man was convicted.

The court ruled that the defendant’s actions caused the woman humiliation, emotional distress, fear, anxiety, and harm to her dignity and reputation.

Citing Articles 292 and 293(1) of the UAE Civil Transactions Law, the court noted that any person responsible for causing harm to another is liable to compensate the victim for the damages suffered.

Based on the findings established in the criminal proceedings, the court upheld the woman’s claim in part and awarded her Dhs15,000 in compensation.
