Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, all private schools in Abu Dhabi must sign an annual parent-school agreement with students’ parents, in line with the new Adek school policy introduced by the Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek). This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening transparency, parental rights, and accountability within private school regulations of the UAE.

Mandatory Parent-School Agreements

Each school must ensure that parents sign a formal parent-school agreement UAE at the time of enrollment and annually during re-enrollment. The agreement must clearly define the obligations of both parties and confirm parental acceptance of all school policies, as outlined by Adek. This is in alignment with school contract laws Abu Dhabi, aiming to protect the interests of students and promote shared responsibility.

Legal Responsibilities and Parent Code of Conduct

The policy sets a legal framework for parent-school interaction, emphasizing that legal rights of parents in UAE education must be respected. Parents are expected to:

  • Respect the school’s mission and contribute positively to the school community.
  • Communicate in a respectful, professional manner, upholding cultural sensitivity and avoiding defamatory remarks online.
  • Ensure student attendance, punctuality, and academic honesty, all essential for academic success.
  • Stay involved in their child's learning, attend meetings, and respond to communications constructively.

Schools have the right to restrict campus access if the parent code of conduct is violated.

Engaging Parents in Learning and Wellbeing

Schools are required to foster parental engagement and provide regular updates on performance. In accordance with Adek school policy, schools must:

  • Share student performance reports in digital format and arrange meetings each term.
  • Facilitate home-based learning support and encourage extracurricular activities.
  • Promote responsible digital learning behavior beyond school hours.
  • Allow parents to offer feedback on their child’s experience, including mental health policy and counselling support.

This aligns with broader student wellbeing laws UAE, ensuring parents stay involved in all aspects of the child's educational experience.

Transparent Communication and Legal Safeguards

To comply with academic policy compliance, schools must:

  • Communicate through newsletters, texts, phone calls, and emails.
  • Obtain consent before sharing student data with third parties.
  • Inform parents of school transport procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Use a mass notification system for urgent updates.

Schools are also classified as mandated reporters. In the case of unexplained absences, sudden withdrawals, or suspected neglect, schools must notify the relevant authorities.

Legal and Financial Compliance

Parents must be informed of approved school fees and payment schedules. Non-compliance with this policy may result in legal consequences for schools as per Adek school policy enforcement.
