The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has hosted a high-level forum to examine how legal systems can be strengthened to support the expanding medical tourism sector, with an emphasis on regulatory preparedness and alignment with international best practices.

Held virtually, the forum brought together legal experts, policymakers, healthcare professionals and representatives from tourism and investment authorities, creating a cross-sector platform to assess the evolving legal needs of modern healthcare services.

Participants reviewed key challenges and growth opportunities linked to medical tourism, focusing on regulatory clarity, patient protection, institutional accountability and Abu Dhabi’s positioning as an attractive destination for international patients and healthcare investors.

A major part of the discussions centred on emerging technologies, particularly the legal implications of digital health services, artificial intelligence and remote treatment models. Experts underlined the need for forward-looking legislation capable of supporting innovation while safeguarding ethical standards and service quality.

The forum also explored ways to stimulate investment through stronger public–private collaboration, highlighting the role of legal incentives and structured governance in accelerating sector development.

Recommendations emerging from the sessions included updating regulatory frameworks to reflect technological advancements, enhancing transparency in healthcare delivery, strengthening performance evaluation mechanisms, expanding infrastructure for virtual care, and considering dedicated judicial pathways to address disputes arising from medical tourism.

Officials said the initiative reflects the Abu Dhabi Judicial Academy’s continued efforts to promote specialised legal dialogue and knowledge exchange, supporting a flexible legislative environment aligned with the emirate’s long-term competitiveness on the global stage.
