The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court has sentenced a teacher to two years in prison for physically assaulting four students at a private school, ordering his deportation from the UAE after completion of his sentence. He was also directed to pay court costs.
The incident took place inside a classroom, where the teacher assaulted the four students, causing injuries that prevented them from carrying out their normal personal activities for periods of up to 20 days.
The court based its conviction on the teacher’s admission during the investigation and court proceedings. He acknowledged assaulting the students but claimed that his actions were intended to prevent them from disrupting the lesson and to maintain classroom discipline.
However, CCTV footage corroborated his admission, documenting the violence and excessive force used against the students. The court found that there was no justification for his conduct.
In its judgment, the court observed that the assault occurred inside a school during a lesson, making the offence particularly serious as it involved a breach of public security and order. It stressed that such behaviour endangered individuals’ safety and undermined the security and stability of society.
The court further highlighted that the protection of public order was essential to safeguarding society’s fundamental values, ensuring the safety of its members and upholding respect for the law.
Describing the teacher’s actions as a flagrant violation of applicable laws and regulations, the court emphasised the need for strict enforcement of legal provisions to protect individuals’ rights and safety. It also underscored the importance of deterring conduct that exposes others to physical harm or threatens their security and stability.
