The Ajman Federal Court of First Instance has fined a 33-year-old Gulf national woman Dh1,000 after convicting her of assaulting her son by striking him on the head with a microphone, causing injuries that temporarily prevented him from carrying out his daily activities for up to 20 days.

The woman was convicted under Article 390(2) of the UAE Crimes and Penalties Law. The court also ordered her to pay the court fees, taking into consideration the fact that the victim was her son when determining the sentence.

According to court records, the incident occurred following a dispute between the boy and his sister. During the argument, the mother allegedly struck her son on the head with a microphone. The boy also sustained additional injuries after being bitten by a dog owned by the woman.

The incident came to the attention of the authorities after the boy's father lodged a complaint with the police. The complaint was registered and referred to the Public Prosecution, which subsequently brought the case before the court.

A medical report submitted as evidence confirmed that the boy had sustained injuries that temporarily affected his ability to carry out his normal daily activities for a period of up to 20 days.

The mother denied the assault allegations during the investigation and maintained her position when she appeared before the court through a video link. The defence submitted a memorandum seeking her acquittal, while the Public Prosecution urged the court to convict her based on the available evidence.

In its assessment of the case, the court found that the boy's statements during the investigation were supported by the medical report. The medical findings corroborated the allegation of physical assault and established a connection between the injuries and the incident.

The court also rejected the defence arguments, ruling that they were insufficient to undermine the evidence presented against the defendant. It consequently found her guilty of assault.

However, when determining the penalty, the court took into account the family relationship between the woman and the victim. Considering that the defendant was the boy's mother, it extended leniency in sentencing.

The court ultimately imposed a fine of Dh1,000 and directed the woman to pay the court fees.
