The Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to repay Dh55,600 to a woman after he failed to book travel tickets and hotel accommodation for her companions despite receiving the money in instalments for the arrangements.

The woman had filed a lawsuit seeking recovery of the amount, along with legal fees and expenses. She told the court that she transferred the money to the defendant in three instalments on the understanding that he would arrange flight bookings and hotel reservations, but he neither fulfilled the agreement nor refunded the money.

An expert appointed by the court found that the defendant failed to provide any evidence proving that he had carried out the bookings or arranged the accommodation requested by the plaintiff, despite receiving the funds for the purpose.

The report also noted that the defendant had acknowledged the outstanding amount in WhatsApp messages linked to his phone number and had promised to repay the woman. However, he failed to provide proof that the money transferred to his personal bank account had been returned.

The court said the expert’s findings confirmed that the defendant owed the plaintiff Dhs55,600 and had failed to meet his contractual obligations.

It further observed that the defendant neither appeared before the court personally nor through a legal representative to contest the claim, and did not submit evidence proving that he was not liable for the debt.
