Al Ain Court Orders Woman to Repay Dh140,000 in Community Fund Dispute
Court awards Dh10,000 compensation after defendant admitted withholding funds owed in a community savings arrangement.
Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a woman to pay Dh140,000 to another woman and awarded an additional Dh10,000 in compensation in a dispute linked to a community-based financial arrangement.
According to court records, the claimant filed a lawsuit demanding repayment of Dh140,000, along with 12 per cent legal interest from the date the case was filed until full settlement. She also sought Dh30,000 in compensation, in addition to legal fees and expenses.
The claimant stated that she had joined a community managed by the defendant and transferred Dh260,000 in instalments as part of her monthly participation contributions. However, when the payment became due, the defendant allegedly returned only Dh120,000 and refused to pay the remaining Dh140,000.
The dispute eventually reached court, where the defendant acknowledged before the case management office that the claimant was entitled to the outstanding amount.
Based on the admission, the court ordered the defendant to repay Dh140,000 and awarded Dh10,000 in compensation for the material and moral damages suffered by the claimant due to being deprived of access to her funds.
