The Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a woman to repay Dh70,000 and pay an additional Dh10,000 in compensation to a man after she was found to have embezzled the money through a fake online investment scheme.

The case stemmed from a lawsuit filed by the victim, who sought the recovery of Dh70,000 along with Dh30,000 in compensation for material and moral damages, as well as reimbursement of legal fees and expenses.

According to court records, the defendant misappropriated the funds after persuading the plaintiff that she would invest the money on his behalf through electronic trading platforms. She later used the amount for personal gain.

The plaintiff stated that the woman initially contacted him through Instagram and WhatsApp, where she promoted the investment opportunity and convinced him to transfer the money to her. Trusting her representations, he proceeded with the transfer, only to later discover that the promised investment activity was fraudulent.

The defendant had earlier been convicted in a related criminal case for fraudulently obtaining money via the internet by misleading the victim into believing she would trade on his behalf.

As a result of the incident, the plaintiff suffered financial losses and damages, prompting him to approach the civil court to recover his funds and seek compensation. The court ruled in his favour, ordering repayment and damages as stated.
