Sponsoring your parents for a residence visa in Dubai is a popular way to reunite families. However, it involves meeting specific criteria and preparing several documents.

This guide walks you through the entire process -- from salary conditions and documentation to medical examinations and expenses -- helping you handle each step easily and effectively.

Eligibility Criteria in Dubai

According to typing centers and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) - Dubai, the following are required:

  • Minimum salary: Dh10,000 per month

  • Accommodation: Valid Ejari (rental agreement) for a two- or three-bedroom flat

  • Security deposit: Dh5,000 (refundable after visa approval)

Documents Required from the Sponsor

Sponsors must typically submit:

  • Emirates ID (valid)

  • Passport copy

  • Dubai residence visa copy

  • Valid employment contract

  • Attested salary certificate

  • Three months of bank statements

  • Consanguinity certificate (attested by your country’s consulate, UAE MOFA, and legally translated into Arabic)—proving your relationship

  • Affidavit from the consulate confirming your sponsorship responsibility

  • NOC from employer (if applicable for free-zone employees)

Note: Document requirements can vary -- you’ll be advised whether fewer or additional papers are required.

Documents Required from Your Parents

Required items include:

  • Recent passport-style photo on a white background

  • Valid passport

  • Health insurance coverage in the UAE

If your parents are already on a visit visa in Dubai, you can apply to change their status under your sponsorship.

Submit these documents at a registered typing center or Amer Centre to open a "new sponsorship file" with GDRFA Dubai.

Medical Fitness Examination

Your parents must complete a medical fitness test through a designated Medical Fitness Centre in Dubai (there are about 21 operated by Dubai Health). Results are typically available within 24 to 48 hours after the test.

Emirates ID and Residency Visa Processing

After passing the medical exam:

  1. Complete biometric registration (fingerprint scanning) at an ICP Customer Happiness Centre.

  2. Processing usually takes around one week.

Make sure to provide a valid email and mobile number -- ICP will use these to update you on your application’s progress and to notify you (via SMS) once the Emirates ID is ready for collection.
