Court Dismisses Dh10M Claim in Dispute Over Counterfeit Slimming Injections
Supplier’s compensation bid rejected after judges rule there was no proof of wrongdoing or reputational harm.

A legal battle between two Dubai-based pharmaceutical companies over an alleged shipment of counterfeit slimming injections has ended in defeat for the claimant, after the court dismissed its Dh10 million compensation demand for lack of evidence.
According to court documents, the plaintiff, a pharmaceutical supplier, claimed the defendant had falsely accused it of delivering counterfeit products. The allegation, it said, prompted health inspectors to carry out an unannounced raid on its warehouse, causing reputational and financial harm. The supplier sought Dh10.44 million in damages.
The defendant, however, denied the accusation, saying it merely questioned a suspiciously low offer of Dh1,734 per injection for 6,000 units. It said it contacted the original manufacturer, who confirmed the products were counterfeit and that it had no dealings with the supplier. The defendant argued that it never lodged a formal complaint and was not responsible for the inspection.
In its judgment, the Dubai Civil Court noted that the burden of proof rests with the plaintiff and that compensation requires evidence of fault, damage, and causation. The court ruled that the supplier had failed to provide documents proving any wrongdoing or harm caused by the defendant and dismissed the claim in full, ordering the plaintiff to bear legal and court costs.
