Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced two Gulf nationals to six months’ imprisonment and a fine of Dh5,400 each after convicting them of stealing prescription-restricted drugs from a pharmacy in Jumeirah.

The incident came to light when a pharmacy employee discovered the premises had been broken into, with the front door lock damaged, shelves ransacked, and medicines missing. Her manager alerted the police, who launched an investigation.

Surveillance footage revealed the men had broken into the store after midnight, exploiting the area’s low foot traffic. Investigators confirmed the stolen items were controlled medicines, illegal to obtain without prescriptions or authorisation.

Police soon apprehended one of the suspects, who admitted both to consuming the stolen substances and committing the theft with an accomplice. The second man, initially denying involvement, was later linked to the crime through evidence and witness testimony.

The court’s ruling underscores Dubai’s strict stance on the illegal acquisition and misuse of prescription drugs, which are treated as controlled substances under UAE law.
