Dubai court has sentenced six men to seven years in prison and imposed a joint Dh10-million fine after convicting them of carrying out a planned robbery targeting bank customers carrying large cash withdrawals. A seventh defendant, a woman, was sentenced to one month in jail for helping conceal the suspects and the stolen money.

The Dubai Criminal Court also ordered the deportation of all seven defendants after completion of their prison terms.

According to court records, the gang operated under a coordinated plan to monitor bank customers and rob them shortly after they withdrew large sums of money. Investigators said the group rented an apartment to serve as a hideout and storage location for the stolen cash, while also preparing a vehicle to carry out the crimes.

One of the accused allegedly kept watch on bank customers and identified the victim after seeing him withdraw a substantial amount of company money from a bank. He then shared the victim’s description and movements with the rest of the gang.

The suspects followed the victim before intercepting him shortly after he left the bank, stealing the cash and fleeing the scene.

Dubai Police later tracked down and arrested the gang members, recovering Dh5.87 million of the stolen amount.

The court convicted the six main defendants of robbery, sentencing each of them to seven years in jail and ordering them to jointly repay an amount equivalent to the stolen money, in addition to deportation.

The seventh defendant was found guilty of assisting the gang by hiding both the suspects and part of the stolen cash. She was sentenced to one month in prison, fined Dh20,000 and ordered to repay Dh4.879 million before deportation.

Following the criminal ruling, the case was referred to the civil court, where the victim is seeking compensation for the unrecovered amount and other damages.

The judgment, which was not appealed, confirmed the defendants’ coordinated involvement in the robbery and the financial harm caused to the victim.
