Dubai Civil Court Orders Woman to Pay Dh283,000 to Hospital After Defaulting on Mother’s Treatment Bill
Gulf national failed to honour written commitment to cover full treatment costs; expert report supports hospital’s claim.

Dubai: The Dubai Civil Court recently ordered a Gulf national woman to pay Dh283,103 to a hospital after she defaulted on a written undertaking to settle the cost of her mother’s treatment.
Court records show the woman signed a declaration accepting full responsibility for the medical expenses before her mother was admitted. The patient, who suffered multiple complications including neck and spinal cord injuries affecting her arms, received full care and treatment.
The total bill amounted to Dh298,103, of which the daughter paid only Dh15,000, leaving an outstanding balance of Dh283,103. Despite repeated reminders, no further payments were made, prompting the hospital to file a lawsuit seeking recovery of the amount with 5 per cent annual interest from the date of admission, along with court fees and legal costs.
Evidence and Expert Findings
The hospital presented the patient’s admission form, the signed cost undertaking, and detailed invoices for treatment and services. The court appointed a medical billing expert, who confirmed the authenticity of the account statement and the written commitment signed by the daughter to cover costs not paid by insurance.
The expert noted there was no proof the defendants had signed or received the final or partial invoices. However, both had been formally notified of the lawsuit and failed to appear before the expert or contest the charges. With no objections raised, the matter was left to the court’s discretion.
Ruling in favour of the hospital, the court ordered the woman to pay the outstanding amount of Dh283,103, plus interest and legal expenses.
