A falsified parking permit has led to the conviction of a father and his son, after a chain of events revealed an attempt to mislead parking inspectors, according to court records.

The case, heard before Dubai’s criminal court, centred on a 29-year-old man who tampered with a parking permit originally issued by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for his father’s vehicle. He allegedly modified the document by inserting details of his own car and altering the expiry date.

The irregularities came to light when a parking inspector noticed the permit displayed on the vehicle’s windscreen and grew suspicious. Upon closer inspection, authorities confirmed that the details did not match the authorised vehicle and that the permit had been forged.

According to the case file, while inspectors contacted the registered owner and waited for him to arrive, the father attempted to remove and conceal the permit, seemingly in a bid to evade detection. However, the violation had already been recorded.

Both individuals were subsequently referred to the Public Prosecution and then to the criminal court, which found them guilty of the charges and imposed penalties including imprisonment and fines.
