His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has decreed the establishment of a new Board of Trustees for the UAE Food Bank.
The board comprises representatives from diverse entities and the food and beverage sector.
Decree No. (16) of 2024, effective immediately upon issuance, designates the Director General of Dubai Municipality as the Vice-Chairman of the Board. The announcement was made on Thursday.
The Board's membership includes the Executive Director of the Community Empowerment Sector at the Community Development Authority in Dubai, and the CEO of the UAE Food Bank. Additionally, representatives from various entities are named members, such as the Endowments and Minors’ Trust Foundation in Dubai, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, the Government of Dubai Media Office, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai and the Food and Beverage Manufacturing Group.
The primary objective of the food bank is to distribute surplus food to those in need and to reduce food waste. In 2023, the food bank received Dh14.7 million ($4 million) in funds and redirected 6,000 tonnes of food away from landfills.
