Grievance, Private Hospitals

A petitioner had approached the Delhi High Court requesting directions against a private hospital overcharging patients for COVID treatment, despite a Delhi Government Order Dated 20th June, 2021 stipulating maximum rates. Overcharging of COVID-19 patients by private hospitals with bills amounting to exorbitant sums have been a problem across the nation for a while. Here, despite the order being made by the state the private hospitals do not seem to comply. The Delhi High Court granted liberty to the petitioner to approach the Grievance Redressal Committee set up by the State government. The counsel for the State submitted that almost all of the complaint which arrived post this order has been disposed off satisfactorily and since the petitioner did not object to the same, the court set the petitioner at liberty to approach the said Committee.
