What began as a private family matter has now unfolded into a high-profile legal drama involving Filipino actress and television star Kim Chiu, one of the country’s most recognisable entertainers, and her sister, Lakambini.

According to reports, Kim filed a qualified theft complaint after discovering discrepancies within one of her business ventures -- an internal finding she described as “painful but necessary.”

The actress reportedly appeared at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office with her legal team, personally submitting her sworn statement. Images from the visit circulated widely, drawing public attention to the dispute.

In a statement shared with media outlets, Kim said months of internal review preceded her decision. She described the move as one of the most difficult in her life but said she felt compelled to protect her company and the livelihoods of those who depend on it. While she did not specify which business was affected, she stressed that the discrepancies were significant enough to warrant formal action.

The rift between the sisters had not gone unnoticed. Earlier this year, followers observed that Kim and Lakambini had unfollowed each other on Instagram, fuelling speculation that tensions were rising behind the scenes. The contrast was striking: in 2023, Lakambini had publicly thanked Kim for supporting her through a medical challenge, praising her sister’s strength and positivity.

With the complaint now formally filed, the matter moves from private tension to public legal scrutiny -- a rare glimpse into a family bond strained by allegations, loyalty, and the complex intersection of business and personal ties.
