Kuwaiti Man Sentenced to Three Years in Jail for Online Insults Against UAE
Court orders immediate imprisonment after TikTok broadcast deemed harmful to ties with a “sisterly nation.”
A Kuwaiti court has sentenced a man to three years in prison with hard labour after ruling that he insulted and defamed the United Arab Emirates during a live TikTok broadcast, according to local reports. The sentence is to be enforced immediately.
The individual was arrested after clips of the broadcast circulated online, prompting security authorities to open an investigation into offensive remarks directed at what officials described as a “sisterly nation.”
Kuwaiti law prohibits insulting foreign states or jeopardising the country’s relations with its allies, treating such actions as criminal offences under provisions related to misuse of communication platforms, national security, and public order. Authorities did not disclose the man’s identity but confirmed that the case falls within laws targeting communications abuses and acts that could undermine Kuwait’s diplomatic standing.
