A Sharjah court has sentenced a man to five years in jail, to be followed by deportation, after finding him guilty of forging an employment visa and defrauding a victim of Dh8,000 by promising him a job opportunity in the country.

The Sharjah Misdemeanor Court also ordered the confiscation of the forged documents used in the scam.

According to case details, the victim testified that the accused, along with another individual, deceived him into believing they could secure an employment visa for him. They allegedly agreed to process the visa in exchange for a payment.

After an outdoor meeting between the parties, the accused instructed the victim to transfer Dh8,000 to his bank account as part of the arrangement. Once the money was received, the accused sent the victim a photograph of what was claimed to be an employment visa via WhatsApp.

However, the victim later verified the document and discovered it was forged.

When he attempted to contact the accused to recover his money and clarify the situation, he found that he had been blocked on the messaging app and all communication channels had been cut off. He subsequently filed a complaint with the relevant authorities.

During court proceedings, the accused was confronted with charges of forging an official document and using it to fraudulently obtain money. He admitted to the offence and confirmed receiving the funds from the victim, leading to his conviction.
