The UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) has introduced seven key grounds that could result in the revocation of a teacher’s professional licence, emphasizing the importance of professional ethics, competence, and compliance within the education sector. This decision applies to educators working across all school curricula and educational institutions in the country.

Reasons for Teacher Licence Revocation

According to the ministry, a teacher’s licence may be revoked under the following circumstances:

  1. Breach of Ethical Standards – Any violation of professional conduct or moral code set by the UAE’s education system.

  2. Legal Violations – Convictions related to criminal offenses, particularly those impacting the safety and well-being of students.

  3. Academic Fraud – Submission of forged educational credentials or misrepresentation of teaching qualifications.

  4. Incompetence in Teaching Performance – Failure to meet educational standards, resulting in poor student outcomes or classroom management.

  5. Violation of UAE Laws and Regulations – Engaging in any activity that contradicts federal laws, such as discriminatory behavior or incitement.

  6. Repeated Professional Misconduct – Multiple instances of disciplinary violations, including non-compliance with institutional policies.

  7. Threat to Student Safety – Any form of physical, emotional, or psychological harm inflicted on students.

Licence Validity and Renewal Conditions

The MoE reiterated that teaching licences in the UAE are valid for a period of two to five years, depending on the educator’s qualifications and category. Teachers are required to renew their licences within the stipulated timeframe to continue practicing.

The renewal process involves:

  • Completion of professional development programs mandated by the MoE.

  • Passing competency assessments relevant to the subject and educational level.

  • Adherence to ethical and legal regulations outlined by the authorities.

Ensuring High Standards in Education

The licensing framework aims to elevate the quality of education in the UAE, ensuring that only qualified and ethical professionals remain in the system. The Teacher and Educational Leadership Standards (TELS UAE) program plays a crucial role in setting and evaluating teaching competencies, thereby safeguarding the interests of students and upholding the integrity of the education sector.

This initiative aligns with the UAE’s national education strategy, which focuses on enhancing learning outcomes, fostering a safe academic environment, and maintaining globally recognized teaching standards.

Teachers are encouraged to stay updated with the MoE’s regulations and continuously improve their skills to retain their licences and contribute effectively to the UAE’s progressive education system.
