UAE Ministry Unveils 3-Step Guide to Renew Loss of Employment Insurance
This move aims to attract top global talent and bolster its position as a preferred destination for professionals.

The UAE's Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced a new three-step process for renewing Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) insurance subscriptions.
This move is a key part of the nation's ongoing efforts to enhance labour legislation, attract top global talent, and bolster its position as a preferred destination for professionals. The ILOE system is a unique and innovative job security framework that provides financial compensation to employees during periods of unemployment, without placing any financial burden on employers.
How to Renew Your Subscription: A Simple 3-Step Process
The renewal procedure is designed to be quick and user-friendly, and can be completed on the ILOE website or through its smart application. The steps are as follows:
-
1. Enter your personal details: Begin by entering your Emirates ID number, mobile number, and date of birth.
-
2. Receive a verification code: An SMS containing a verification code will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter this code to proceed with the renewal.
-
3. Verify and pay: You will be directed to a page displaying your information. After verifying your details and agreeing to the terms and conditions, you will be redirected to a payment link.
Upon successful payment, you have the option to download or print your insurance certificate and payment receipt. For any assistance, a call center is available at 600599555.
Understanding the Compensation and Contribution Structure
The ILOE insurance system is a mandatory scheme for most employees in the private sector and federal government. It is structured into two main categories:
-
Category 1: For employees earning a basic salary of Dh16,000 or less. The monthly premium is Dh5, and the maximum monthly compensation is Dh10,000.
-
Category 2: For employees earning a basic salary above Dh16,000. The monthly premium is Dh10, and the maximum monthly compensation is Dh20,000.
To qualify for compensation, an insured employee must have been continuously subscribed for at least 12 months. The compensation amount is calculated at 60 per cent of the employee’s average basic salary over the last six months and is disbursed for a maximum of three months. It is important to note that claims are invalid if the insured leaves the country or secures a new job, and compensation is not granted in cases of resignation or dismissal for disciplinary reasons.
A number of groups are exempt from the system, including business owners, domestic workers, individuals under 18, and Emirati retirees.
Penalties for Non-Compliance and Broader Impact
To ensure the system's effectiveness, the Ministry has established clear penalties. A fine of Dh400 is imposed for failing to subscribe to the ILOE system within the four-month grace period from the date of a work permit's issuance. Additionally, a 2 per cent penalty is levied for each month of delayed premium payments.
The ILOE system is a testament to the UAE government's commitment to creating a competitive business environment and a high quality of life for its residents. By offering temporary financial support and robust job security, the scheme solidifies the country's reputation as a top global destination for professionals and helps attract and retain top talent from around the world.
