A 32-year-old Asian worker has been awarded Dh70,000 in compensation after a Dubai court held his supervisors and employer responsible for a machine accident that left him permanently disabled.

The incident occurred while the worker was operating a steel-bending machine at a workshop. His hand became trapped in the equipment, leading to the amputation of two fingers. Court investigations revealed that he had not received adequate safety training or guidance before being assigned to use the machine.

The Dubai Criminal Court earlier convicted two supervisors of negligence, ruling they had failed to uphold workplace safety standards. They were sentenced to one month in jail, suspended for three years, and fined Dh5,000 each. The court concluded that the lack of supervision and disregard for safety protocols directly caused the accident.

Following the criminal verdict, the injured worker pursued a civil claim seeking Dh150,000 in damages for disability, medical expenses, and financial loss. After reviewing evidence and medical reports, the Civil Court ordered the supervisors and the employer to pay Dh70,000 jointly as fair compensation.

The ruling highlights the legal accountability of employers and supervisors in the UAE for ensuring workplace safety and proper training.
