The Abu Dhabi Civil Family Court has ordered a young man to pay Dh20,000 in compensation to a woman after secretly filming her without consent, along with a Dh10,000 fine, Emarat Al Youm reported.

The decision upheld a previous criminal court ruling that convicted him of violating the woman’s privacy and imposed a Dh10,000 penalty. Together, the fines and damages total Dh30,000.

According to court records, the woman filed a civil claim citing reputational harm and emotional distress. Judges noted that the earlier conviction established his liability, giving binding weight to the civil case.

The court found damages justified under civil law, citing the psychological trauma, reputational damage, and loss of dignity the woman suffered, adding that the incident left her stigmatized in her community.

In addition to compensation, the man was also ordered to cover legal costs and fees.
