Woman Fined Dh10,000 Over Loud Music That Disturbed Abu Dhabi Man

The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a woman to pay Dh10,000 in compensation to another individual after finding that loud music played from her car near his residence caused a disturbance and harmed his peace and wellbeing.

The plaintiff had sought Dh40,000 in compensation, claiming that the woman repeatedly played loud music from her parked car near his home. He argued that the disturbance affected his peace of mind and caused psychological, financial and social harm to him and his family.

In a related criminal case, the woman was found guilty of causing a disturbance and was fined Dhs10,000. The ruling was subsequently upheld on appeal, making it final and no longer subject to challenge.

The civil court referred to Article 246 of the Civil Transactions Law, which provides for compensation for harm caused to others, including moral damage affecting a person's freedom, reputation or social standing.

After considering the circumstances of the case, the court found that the woman's conduct was inappropriate and offensive and had caused harm to the plaintiff. It therefore awarded Dh10,000 in compensation, rather than the Dh40,000 sought.
