Abu Dhabi Family Court Awards Woman Dh10,000 Compensation for Assault
Plaintiff had sought Dh250,000 for material and moral damages; court recognises prior criminal conviction of defendant
The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to pay Dh10,000 in compensation to a woman he assaulted, after finding that the attack caused her both material and moral harm.
The woman had filed a lawsuit demanding Dh250,000 in compensation for material and non-material damages, in addition to legal costs and expenses. She based her claim on a previous criminal conviction in which the defendant was found guilty of assaulting her.
The Court noted that the criminal judgment confirmed the assault, which resulted in material damages from the injuries sustained and moral damages reflected in her grief, sorrow and emotional distress.
Taking these factors into account, the Court ruled that the defendant must compensate the complainant with Dh10,000 for the damages suffered.
