Abu Dhabi has implemented strict penalties for vehicle owners who leave their cars abandoned or dirty in public areas, as announced by the Capital’s Department of Municipalities and Transport. These measures aim to preserve the city's aesthetic and prevent vehicles from becoming public eyesores.

Penalty Structure for Abandoned and Dirty Vehicles

Vehicle owners failing to keep their cars clean or leaving them in public spaces in a manner that distorts the city's appearance will now face fines under a three-tier penalty system:

  • First Violation: Dh500 fine

  • Second Violation: Dh1,000 fine

  • Third Violation: Dh2,000 fine

Additionally, under Law No. 2 of 2012, leaving a vehicle’s body or frame in public areas will also incur strict penalties:

  • First Violation: Dh1,000 fine

  • Second Violation: Dh2,000 fine

  • Third Violation: Dh4,000 fine

Previous Campaigns and Public Awareness

Authorities have conducted several campaigns in the past to address the issue of abandoned vehicles, issuing warnings and notices to owners. The problem becomes more prevalent during summer when residents travel for vacations, often returning to find their vehicles marked with violation notices.

Similar Regulations in Other Emirates

  • Dubai: A Dh500 fine is imposed for leaving a vehicle unwashed in public parking for extended periods. Inspectors monitor such cars, issuing warnings with a 15-day grace period before impounding them.

  • Sharjah: In 2021 alone, the municipality impounded 3,911 abandoned vehicles in the first half of the year.

With these regulations in place, authorities urge residents to maintain their vehicles to avoid fines and ensure a clean urban environment.
