Abu Dhabirsquos Department Municipalities Transport DMT unveiled updated

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has unveiled updated penalties for littering, reinforcing the emirate’s commitment to maintaining clean and orderly public spaces. The revised fines, announced via Instagram, outline strict penalties based on the type and frequency of violations, with repeat offenders facing penalties of up to Dh4,000.

Crackdown on Littering and Public Violations

The move comes after Abu Dhabi Police issued 670 fines during the UAE’s 53rd National Day celebrations in 2024, penalizing individuals for littering and using spray paint on roads. These violations were committed by drivers, passengers, and pedestrians, prompting authorities to take stronger action against public space violations.

The latest penalties under the Regulation on the Preservation of Public Spaces include fines for various littering offenses. Here’s a breakdown of the fines:

  1. Discarding Cigarette Butts Outside Designated Containers

  • First violation: Dh500

  • Second violation: Dh1,000

  • Third violation: Dh2,000

  1. Disposing of Personal Waste from Eating and Drinking Outside Designated Containers

  • First violation: Dh500

  • Second violation: Dh1,000

  • Third violation: Dh2,000

  1. Disposing of, Placing, or Leaving Waste in Non-Designated Areas

  • First violation: Dh1,000

  • Third violation: Dh4,000

Commitment to a Cleaner Abu Dhabi

Authorities have reiterated the importance of preserving public spaces and maintaining cleanliness across the emirate. Residents and visitors are urged to dispose of waste properly and adhere to designated disposal areas to avoid hefty penalties.

With these regulations in place, Abu Dhabi aims to create a cleaner, more sustainable urban environment, ensuring public spaces remain well-maintained for everyone.
