Man Wins Dh661,000 Compensation in Fraud Case; Convicts to be Deported
Court orders repayment, compensation, and costs under Civil Transactions Law after criminal verdict upheld.

The Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Court has awarded a man Dh661,034 after he was defrauded by a group of individuals.
The civil ruling, which included the stolen amount of Dh631,034 and Dh30,000 as compensation, followed an earlier criminal case in which the defendants were convicted of fraud.
In that criminal proceeding, the court sentenced some defendants to three months’ imprisonment followed by deportation, while others were convicted in absentia. Once appeals were exhausted, the verdict became final.
After the criminal judgment, the victim filed a civil claim seeking repayment of the stolen funds in full and Dh50,000 as compensation for moral and material damages.
Relying on the final criminal ruling, the civil court confirmed the defendants’ liability, noting that the misappropriation of funds lacked any lawful justification. The court also recognised the material and emotional harm caused to the plaintiff.
However, it set the appropriate compensation at Dh30,000 and ordered repayment of Dh631,034.
In addition to these amounts, the defendants were directed to pay the court costs, while other claims by the plaintiff were dismissed.
The court cited Article 318 of the Civil Transactions Law, which provides that “no one may take another’s property without a lawful reason, and if he does so, he must return it.”
The ruling highlights how criminal convictions in the UAE strengthen related civil claims, ensuring victims receive financial redress alongside criminal accountability.
