Abu Dhabi Police Issue Warning on Remote Access Software and Rising Online Scams
Cybercriminals Exploit Remote Access Apps for Fraud and Data Theft

Abu Dhabi Police have raised alarms about the increasing threat posed by remote access software, which fraudsters are using to unlawfully access victims' devices. While these applications are often used for legitimate reasons, such as technical support or remote work, they are increasingly being misused by cybercriminals for fraudulent purposes.
Fraudsters Target Devices via Remote Access Software
Fraudsters trick victims into downloading remote access apps by pretending to offer technical help, which enables them to gain unauthorized access to smartphones and computers. Once in control of the device, scammers can steal sensitive information, including banking details, or conduct financial fraud.
Beware of Suspicious Phone Calls
Major General Mohammed Suhail Al Rashidi, Director of the Criminal Security Sector at Abu Dhabi Police, cautioned the public to be vigilant against suspicious phone calls. He emphasized that legitimate bank representatives would never ask for sensitive information like bank account numbers, credit card details, passwords, ATM PINs, security codes, or one-time passwords (OTPs) over the phone.
Residents are urged to stay cautious and refrain from sharing confidential details that could lead to fraudulent activities.
Increasing Threat of Online Fraud
The police also warned about the rise in online fraud schemes, where scammers promise false financial gains to lure individuals into scams. These fraudsters continually refine their methods to deceive as many people as possible, using various tactics to exploit their victims.
Fake Websites Posing as Trusted Brands
Abu Dhabi Police have also pointed out the growing danger of fraudulent websites pretending to be reputable companies. These deceptive sites often mimic well-known businesses, such as insurance companies, restaurants, and retail stores. They offer enticing deals to attract consumers, only to steal their money once a transaction is made.
Report Fraud and Stay Safe
In an effort to protect the community, Abu Dhabi Police urge residents to report any suspected cases of fraud. The public can reach out to the authorities through the following channels:
Visit the nearest police station
Use the police’s smart app
Contact the Aman service at 800 2626
Send an SMS to 2828
Email aman@adpolice.gov.ae
The police continue to expand their crime prevention efforts and raise awareness about the dangers of online fraud, encouraging residents to remain cautious and vigilant at all times.
