The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has ordered the administrative closure of The Egyptian Bakery, which operates under commercial license No. 1852988 CN-. The closure was issued for repeated violations of Law No. (2) of 2008 concerning food in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and its associated regulations, which posed a significant risk to public health.

According to ADAFSA, the bakery failed to take effective corrective measures after being cited for multiple violations. The closure will remain in effect until all food safety requirements are met and the establishment can resume operations only after it has fully complied with all regulations.

Residents are encouraged to report any food safety violations by calling the Abu Dhabi Government's toll-free number, 800555.

About the Law

Law No. (2) of 2008 is a foundational piece of legislation in Abu Dhabi that establishes the legal framework for food safety. It is designed to:

  • Ensure Food is Safe and Wholesome: The primary goal is to protect consumer health by ensuring that all food sold or handled in the Emirate is fit for human consumption.

  • Establish Food Control Standards: The law sets clear rules and regulations that all food establishments, from bakeries to restaurants, must follow. This includes standards for hygiene, food handling, storage, and traceability.

  • Empower the Regulator: It gives the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) the authority to conduct inspections, enforce the rules, and take necessary actions -- like administrative closures -- against establishments that fail to comply.

In essence, this law is what gives ADAFSA the power to enforce food safety and hygiene standards to protect the public. The bakery's administrative closure is a direct application of the authority granted by this law.
