Al Ain Civil Court Orders Man to Pay Dh15,000 for Verbally Abusing Woman
Judges rule emotional and psychological distress caused by the insult must be compensated under UAE civil law.
The Al Ain Court of Civil, Commercial and Administrative Claims has ordered a man to pay Dh15,000 in compensation to a woman he insulted with indecent and offensive language, after he was convicted in a related criminal case.
Court records show that the woman filed a civil claim seeking Dh51,000 in damages, citing emotional and psychological suffering as well as legal costs. She told the court that the man’s obscene remarks and behaviour had caused her significant mental distress.
The court emphasised that under UAE law, any act that inflicts harm -- whether material or moral -- requires the offender to provide compensation. It found that the defendant’s misconduct was proven and that his actions directly caused the woman’s suffering.
Accordingly, the court ordered the man to pay Dh15,000 as full compensation for both material and moral damages.
