Bahrain Court Fines Husband 500 Dinars for Assaulting Wife
Husband Convicted for Breaking Wife’s Nose and Choking Her During Domestic Dispute

A Bahrain court has fined a man BD500 (Dh4,880) after upholding his conviction for violently assaulting his wife. The ruling, which marks the conclusion of the defendant's final appeal, confirmed the earlier decisions made by both the Lower Criminal Court and the Court of Appeal.
The husband had claimed that his wife's injuries were from previous incidents and not caused by him. However, forensic evidence contradicted his claims, revealing that the injuries were recent and inflicted during the altercation. Medical examiners determined that the wounds were severe enough to leave the wife unable to perform daily activities for over 20 days.
The Case of Domestic Abuse
According to the wife’s testimony, her husband struck her on the spot of a previous surgery, choked her, and left her bleeding. This formed the basis of the prosecution’s case, which charged him with intentional harm under criminal law. The court found the forensic reports to be conclusive, supporting her statement and the evidence presented.
The defendant, in his appeal, questioned the credibility of his wife’s statement and disputed the reliability of the testimonies from his children. He also argued that the evidence was inconsistent. However, the court dismissed these claims, stating that the injuries were clearly documented, and the legal process was properly followed.
Legal Proceedings and Impact
The court's ruling not only upheld the fine but also referred the matter to the civil court for further proceedings. Legal experts in criminal law suggest that the case highlights the importance of forensic evidence in cases of domestic abuse. The ruling sends a strong message regarding the consequences of violent behavior within marriages, reinforcing that such actions will not go unpunished.
