The Abu Dhabi Civil Family Court has directed a group of fraudsters to refund Dh20,100 to a man they duped with the lure of a fake loan, Emarat Al Youm reported.

The plaintiff told the court he was persuaded to believe he would obtain a loan through a digital platform but was first required to transfer Dh20,100 as “processing fees.” After paying the amount, he discovered the loan never existed.

Criminal Ruling Reinforces Civil Judgment

The defendants had already been found guilty in criminal proceedings and fined Dh20,000 each. The Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court stated that the prior ruling carried binding authority in the civil case.

The court underscored that the criminal judgment had already proven the fraud, affirming the defendants had taken the plaintiff’s money “by deception” and that the ruling was final and enforceable.

Legal Grounds and Decision

Referring to the Civil Transactions Law, which forbids anyone from taking another person’s property without lawful reason, the court ruled that the plaintiff’s claim was justified.

The defendants were ordered to return Dh20,100, along with legal charges and court costs.
