The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Court has ordered a real estate company employee to return Dh437,464 he embezzled, along with Dh100,000 in compensation for material and moral damages.

The employer sued the worker after he was convicted by the Abu Dhabi Misdemeanor Court for Financial Crimes, which fined him Dh500,000 for embezzlement -- a ruling later upheld on appeal and cassation. Despite the final verdict, he refused to return the funds without valid justification.

Court records confirmed that the judgment proved the employee had unlawfully appropriated the amount. During the civil proceedings, he attended hearings but failed to present evidence of repayment, prompting the court to rule in the company’s favour.

The court also granted the company Dh100,000 in damages, noting financial losses from being unable to use the stolen funds -- which were part of tenant investments -- and reputational harm caused by the incident.
