Court Orders Seller to Repay Dh55,000, Pay Fine for Jet Ski Odometer Tampering
Buyer wins lawsuit after discovering seller manipulated jet ski’s usage hours and concealed serious defects.

The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to return Dh55,000 and pay Dh3,000 in compensation after he was found guilty of selling a jet ski under false pretences.
The case began when the buyer discovered that the jet ski, purchased for Dh55,000, had a serious malfunction. Investigations revealed that the seller had tampered with the odometer and computer system to misrepresent the jet ski’s actual usage.
The plaintiff explained that the seller claimed the jet ski had only been used for 14 hours and was in good condition. However, when the jet ski began overheating, he took it to a workshop, where experts confirmed it had clocked 6,987 miles, far exceeding the declared usage.
The buyer attempted to settle the matter amicably and requested a refund, but the seller refused, prompting him to file a lawsuit. He sought the rescission of the sale contract, reimbursement of the purchase price, Dh20,000 in damages, and legal fees.
After reviewing the evidence, the court ruled in favour of the buyer, ordering the cancellation of the sale, repayment of Dh55,000, and Dh3,000 in compensation for material and moral damages.
