Ras Al Khaimah: An Arab man sentenced to death for murdering his friend in 2016 has been pardoned by the victim’s family after serving eight years in prison. The Court of Cassation had previously commuted his death sentence.

The case stemmed from a dispute between the two men, who worked together as shepherds. Tensions escalated when the victim repeatedly insulted the accused. In a fit of rage, the man attacked his friend with a shovel before forcing pesticide down his throat. He then attempted suicide by consuming the pesticide himself.

An Asian worker at the scene reported the incident to authorities, leading to the man's arrest. During interrogations, he confessed, citing revenge as his motive. Convicted of premeditated murder, he was sentenced to death.

After eight years behind bars, the victim’s family agreed to drop the case in exchange for blood money. Following his release, the man was deported.
