Dinner Date Ends in Jail: Man Steals Woman’s Phone in Dubai Marina
Court jails Arab youth for one month, fines him Dh2,500, and orders deportation after theft during dinner meet-up.

A Dubai court has sentenced a young Arab man to one month in jail, fined him Dh2,500, and ordered his deportation after he was found guilty of stealing a woman’s mobile phone during a dinner date.
The incident occurred last month at a Dubai Marina restaurant, where the woman and her sister joined the man for dinner. The woman reported to police that she left her phone on the table when she stepped away briefly, only to return and find it missing -- along with the defendant.
Her sister attempted to reach him immediately, but his phone was switched off. Police reviewed surveillance footage, which confirmed the man seizing the device and leaving the venue in haste. He was later tracked down and arrested after a circular was issued.
During interrogation, he admitted to the theft but claimed he acted impulsively under the influence of alcohol, later discarding the phone on his way home.
The Dubai Misdemeanours and Violations Court found him guilty of theft with intent, ruling that he was fully aware of his actions and had deliberately taken the device without consent.
