Dubai Court Fines Motorist, Orders Dh50,000 Blood Money Over Death of E-Scooter Rider in Run-Over Crash
Driver found guilty of negligence after hitting victim on Al Wasl Road; court cites shared responsibility between motorist and scooter rider.

The Dubai Misdemeanor Court has fined a Gulf citizen Dh10,000 and ordered him to pay Dh50,000 in blood money to the heirs of an Asian man who died after being struck while riding an electric scooter on Al Wasl Road.
The incident, which took place last March, was reported to Bur Dubai Police Station. Investigations revealed that the victim was crossing near a pedestrian zone when he was run over by the defendant’s vehicle. The man later succumbed to his injuries.
During questioning, the driver claimed the scooter rider had suddenly entered the road from outside a designated pedestrian crossing, leaving him unable to avoid the collision. However, accident sketches showed that the driver had committed multiple violations, including running a red light, failing to pay attention, and not slowing down when approaching a pedestrian crossing.
The report also noted partial responsibility on the victim, who was found to have used pedestrian lines while still on his scooter instead of dismounting and crossing on foot.
In its judgment, the court ruled that both parties had failed to exercise the legally required duty of care. The driver was therefore held criminally liable and ordered to pay a fine along with Dh50,000 in blood money to the victim’s family.
