Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced an Arab man to life imprisonment, followed by deportation, after finding him guilty of trafficking and abusing narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Two other Arab men who lived with him were cleared of all charges after investigators confirmed they had no role in the offence.

The case began in April when the General Department of Anti-Narcotics received intelligence that the defendant was in possession of a quantity of marijuana and planned to sell it to an undercover police agent for Dh100. After securing a warrant from the Public Prosecution, officers set up a controlled operation to arrest him in the act.

According to interrogation records, a police officer said the defendant was caught red-handed while handing over the marijuana to the undercover agent and taking Dh100 in return. The herbal material seized from him weighed 61 grams and laboratory tests later confirmed it was marijuana.

The defendant lived in an apartment in the Al Satwa area, which he shared with two others. Officers searched the premises under a prosecution warrant and found the two additional residents inside. A transparent plastic bag containing marijuana and a plastic bottle with a liquid suspected of being mixed with narcotics were also seized from the apartment.

The two men denied any connection to the substances, and investigators later determined they had no knowledge of the defendant’s activities. They were therefore acquitted.

During interrogation, the defendant admitted possessing drugs for personal use but denied any intent to trade or promote them. He also confessed to using multiple narcotic and psychotropic substances before his arrest. A forensic analysis of his urine sample confirmed the presence of several narcotics.
