The Dubai Court of Appeal has upheld a lower court’s verdict sentencing two Asian men to life imprisonment and a fine of Dh500,000 each for possessing and promoting narcotic substances through social media.

The court also ordered the confiscation of the seized drugs and imposed a two-year ban on the men from transferring or depositing money without approval from the UAE Central Bank and coordination with the Ministry of Interior. After serving their sentences, both will be deported.

Investigations revealed that the men were caught red-handed in the Hor Al Anz area while attempting to sell hashish to users. The case dates back to February last year, when the General Department of Anti-Narcotics received credible information about their illegal activities.

Following a probe, the Public Prosecution issued a warrant, and a police team moved in to arrest the suspects. A search of the first man uncovered three rolls of a dark substance weighing 62 grammes, while additional quantities were found with his accomplice.

During interrogation, the duo admitted to concealing eight more packets of drugs in various locations. Police later recovered these and searched their residence in the Rigga area, where they found over 550 grammes of narcotics and tools used for measuring and packaging the drugs.

The Dubai Criminal Court convicted the pair based on the evidence, and the Court of Appeal has now confirmed the ruling.
