A Dubai Misdemeanours Court has convicted an Arab woman of causing a fatal road accident while driving under the influence of alcohol. She was fined Dh10,000 and ordered to pay Dh200,000 in blood money to the victim’s family.

The incident occurred in Dubai’s Al Qudra area when the woman, reportedly under the influence, lost control of her car on a two-way side street and veered sharply to the right. Her vehicle collided with another car, which then struck a streetlight, a parked vehicle, and a third car.

The woman’s car continued moving and hit three pedestrians. One man later died from his injuries, while the other two sustained varying degrees of injury.

Medical tests confirmed that the woman had consumed alcohol before the crash -- a fact she admitted during police questioning. She claimed she was startled by pedestrians standing in the middle of the road.

The court found that her impaired driving and lack of caution directly caused the fatal accident. However, it also noted that the pedestrians contributed partially to the tragedy by standing in the middle of the road outside designated crossings.

In addition to the fine and blood money, the woman was held responsible for damage to all vehicles involved in the crash.
