The Dubai Misdemeanour Court has sentenced a woman to one month in jail and imposed a Dhs3,000 fine for her role in a fraud case.

According to authorities, the woman collaborated with a fugitive to defraud another woman by promising her a job opportunity in the UAE and ultimately seizing Dhs10,000 from her.

The case dates back to October 2024, when the victim, an African national, reported to the police that she had been scammed by a man who claimed to be a company manager and assured her of employment. The suspect requested documents and Dhs10,000 to process her job application.

The victim paid Dhs4,000 in cash and later transferred Dhs3,000 to the suspect’s bank account. The remaining amount was sent to the second defendant’s account at the suspect’s instruction. After receiving the funds, the fugitive disappeared, and the victim later discovered that the company had no link to him, confirming the scam.

Police investigations revealed that the fugitive was a known fraudster who exploited the victim’s job search in collusion with the second defendant. During questioning, the second defendant denied direct involvement in the fraud, claiming she allowed her account to be used to receive Dhs3,000 in exchange for a commission.
