Dubai Court Jails Two Men for Truck Diesel Theft, Orders Deportation

A Dubai court has sentenced two men to one month in jail each and ordered their deportation after convicting them in a truck diesel theft case. The first accused, who stole the vehicle and siphoned its fuel, was fined Dh1,650, while the second, who purchased the stolen diesel, was fined Dh450.

The case came to light when a truck driver arrived at his company’s parking area and discovered that his vehicle was missing, with only faint tyre marks left behind. Suspecting theft, the company alerted the authorities.

Police launched an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Surveillance cameras showed a man driving the truck through city streets before stopping in an industrial area in Jebel Ali. He then abandoned the vehicle and walked away, suggesting the theft had been deliberately planned.

Officers circulated the suspect’s description, leading to his arrest. During questioning, the first accused admitted using an old key in his possession to access the truck. He drove it to a secluded location, siphoned the diesel, and sold it for Dh450.

The buyer was also arrested and admitted purchasing the fuel, although he claimed he was unaware it had been stolen. Investigators found that the theft was premeditated, with the accused selecting the vehicle, retaining a working key, and choosing a quiet area to avoid detection.

In court, both men maintained their statements. However, CCTV footage, their confessions, and the recovered diesel were sufficient to secure convictions. The first accused was convicted of night-time theft, while the second was found guilty of possessing items obtained from a crime. Both were sentenced to one month in jail, fined, and ordered to be deported.
