Traffic Violations Highlight the Need for Stricter Enforcement

Dubai: The UAE Ministry of Interior has reported an alarming 2,070,338 radar violations in 2024, underscoring the persistent challenges in road safety and driver behaviour across the city. The data reveals a pressing need for stricter enforcement and increased awareness to curb reckless driving and non-compliance with traffic regulations.
Leading Causes of Traffic Accidents
Sudden lane changes emerged as the primary cause of accidents, contributing to 676 collisions, followed by failure to maintain a safe distance, which resulted in 518 accidents. These figures reinforce the importance of defensive driving and adhering to traffic rules to reduce road mishaps.
Radar Violations and Traffic Offenses
Speeding remained the most frequent traffic violation, with over 2 million instances of drivers exceeding limits by more than 30km/h. Other major violations included:

Improper parking – 154,948 cases

Failure to obey traffic signs – 129,263 cases

Running red lights – 34,542 cases

Distracted driving (mobile phone use) – 87,321 cases

Additionally, 95 drivers were caught driving in foggy conditions despite official warnings, endangering themselves and others.
